Abstract: The oral cavity is home to the second most diverse microbiota in the human body, with bacteria, fungi, viruses and archaea. During the early stages of SARS-CoV-2 infection, the oropharynx is a crucial region for viral replication. Therefore, periodontal bacteria may be related to complications of covid-19. This study aimed to evaluate, in a population diagnosed with pre-obesity and obesity class I, whether the oral health condition of the patient with covid-19 who required intensive care care influenced the prognosis and mortality. A retrospective analytical observa-tional study was carried out in which the medical records of patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Hospital Regional da Asa Norte who had a diagnosis of covid-19 and pre-obesity or obesity grade I were analyzed. The results showed a greater need for mechanical ventilation in patients with odontogenic infection. Mortality was higher in the pre-obese group with odontogenic infection when compared to the group without infection. However, in the group with grade I obesity, we did not find the same result.
